Archive talk: Bert Hardy's Chinatown

Writer and broadcaster Gregory Lee introduces photographs of Liverpool's Chinatown taken in 1942 by legendary photojournalist Bert Hardy. Hardy was chief photographer at Picture Post magazine, which commissioned but never published the work. The photographs appeared in the exhibition Chinese Whispers at Open Eye Gallery (2001) and have recently been donated by Getty Images to the gallery's archive. Gregory Lee (Professor of Transcultural Studies at Liverpool Hope University) will also talk about the Museum of Chinatown History Project, of which he is director.

Curated by Bidoun, the magazine of arts and culture from the Middle East, this programme highlights the current vibrancy of the region's video art. Heysha is Egyptian slang for joyful chaos, or a jumbled-up non-homogenous mixture of formats. Artists: Akram Zaatari, Ziad Antar, Hossam El Sawah, Rosalind Nashashibi, Iman Issa, Nadine Khan, Shahryar Nashat and Yasmeen Al Awadi. Duration 55 mins.

Redeye Network Meetings
