Pier Head

Relocation

We've started construction work on our larger, purpose-built space at the heart of Liverpool's historic waterfront, to be launched in early 2011. Behind the scenes we're working away in the old Wood Street premises on fundraising and running the capital project, planning the move and developing our new, more ambitious operation. Throughout 2010 we're also presenting an interim artistic programme of exhibitions and occasional events.

Architects RCKa have designed the new space, which fits within the much larger Mann Island development, a mixed-use scheme by developers Countryside/Neptune consisting of three new blocks between the Port of Liverpool building (on the Pierhead) and the Albert Dock.

At 380mē, the new premises will be twice the size of the old Wood Street space. There will be two galleries on the ground floor. A mezzanine level of about 120mē will house offices, storage space and a smaller gallery for changing displays from our historic print archive. The archive was started in 1980 and holds around 1500 photographs by over 100 photographers.
